We have chosen to hold our Conference in Casa Convalescència because of its singularity. Its modernist architecture perfectly reflects the character of our city, and its central location makes it a very practical and easy place to get to. Moreover, the iconic Sagrada Familia and Sant Pau are very close, so make sure to have time for a quick visit!
The building
Casa Convalescència was built in the 19th century under the supervision of Pere Domènech Roura, who initially worked with his father Lluis Domenech Montaner, one of the most influential Art Noveau Catalan artists. Originally intended to alleviate the shortage of hospital space in Barcelona, the building has now become the headquarters of the Foundation of the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona.
Its uniqueness comes from the fact that it is one of the last great works of Catalan Modernism, characterised by brick vault ceilings and metal girders that tense the flattened arches.
